One Person has been arrested on Suspicion of offering Electoral Bribe: Prosecutor’s Office

Prior to December 8, the day before the National Assembly extraordinary elections, from overall alarms received 87 alarms were investigated by the RA Prosecutor General’s Office, 49 out of which were related to electoral violations informed by the mass media, 37 were complaints by the citizens to different police subdivisions or messages and one note was sent to the Prosecutor General by the CEC Chairman.

Ararat marz prosecutor, 1st Class Adviser of Justice Sevak Hovhannisyan said this at the Central Election Commission Information Center.

Testing of a total of 57 cases of abstraction and general information have been performed or carried out, as a result of which some facts have already been denied.

In order to verify the legality and grounds for initiating a criminal case in 19 cases, materials are being prepared in the procedure provided by Articles 180-181 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia.

Of these:

4 relate to impeding the exercise of the candidate’s powers, 
1 relate to compel to advocacy,
2 relate to compel to refrain from advocacy,
5 relate to vote bribes,
1 relate to hinder the exercise of free will, and
1 relate to compelling to compulsory waiver,
2 relate to granting gratuitous money to voters under the name of benevolence, violation of charity ban during elections, and
3 for other cases.

A criminal case has been initiated pursuant to Article 154.2 (4) of the RA Criminal Code on the fact of offering electoral bribe to two or more persons by materials prepared on the basis of the alarm received on one case. Based on the facts obtained during the preliminary investigation, one person was arrested on suspicion of offering bribe.
