The Path of Transitional Justice will “be very painful”; the Names of Perpetrators should be known: Ararat Mirzoyan

The Civil Society – Government Conference entitled “The Possibilities of introducing of mechanisms of Transitional Justice in the RA in the Light of the International Experience” organized within the framework of the EU funded “Commitment to Constructive Dialogue” project is currently underway.

Acting First Deputy Prime Minister Ararat Mirzoyan was also present at the conference. According to him, it is necessary to understand the extent to which the toolkit offered by international experience is applicable to Armenia and, if applicable, which will become the platform where the abuser will be able have a dialogue with a person whose rights have been violated and eventually come to conciliation.

“The essence of transitional justice is to fix the truth so that, such phenomena will never be repeated in the country, in this case in Armenia, and the future-oriented dialogue and reconciliation take place,” Ararat Mirzoyan mentioned and added that only after a profound study it may be decided whether to go in this direction or not.

In his words, it should be taken into account that the path of transitional justice will “be very painful”, as proving the guilt and the names of the guilty should be prior to dialogue and reconciliation.

“Naturally, there will be people who will that this is not a way of solidarity and dialogue, but I think everyone is aware that there is forgiveness and the guilty party recognizes his guilt. This should be a short, painful way, that is, before the dialogue and reconciliation, determination of guilt shall take place,” he said.
