Acting Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Richard Mills. The interlocutors discussed a number of issues related to the internal political situation in Armenia.

Karen Karapetyan attached importance to solving internal political issues through dialogue, constitutional order and thanked the US government for the position expressed on this issue. The Acting Prime Minister attached importance to holding consultations with President Armen Sargsyan with the representatives of parliamentary and extra-parliamentary forces to discuss the situation in the country and the ways out of it, including through the conduct of extraordinary parliamentary elections.

Ambassador Mills once again reaffirmed the US government’s stance and stressed that all the processes should take place according to the Constitution. He added that there is no alternative to dialogue for the settlement of the political situation. “I understand that these demonstrations, civil disobedience acts are a violation of the law, and the government must ensure public order and security as best as possible. I am convinced that the way to democracy or the way to strengthen democracy is not the option when the Prime Minister’s candidate is elected in the streets during the demonstration,” Richard Mills said, emphasizing the importance of dialogue between the political forces.
