The “Civil Contract” Party condemns the arrest of members of the party board, MPs Nikol Pashinyan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Sasun Mikaelyan, and the use of violence against them, which is an open violation of the fundamental freedoms guaranteed by international treaties and the immunity of a deputy provided by the Armenian constitution. For days, the police have applied unimaginable power to peaceful demonstrators and restricted the right of citizens to freedom of peaceful assembly through illegal arrests.
The policy of Serzh Sargsyan and the Republican Party of Armenia contradict the principles of a democratic and legal state: does not stem from the rights and interests of the Armenian people.
All actions of the authorities will bring counteraction and may endanger Armenia’s future.
We urge Serzh Sargsyan and the Republican Party of Armenia to return to the negotiations table to discuss the issue of resignation and transfer of power.
We demand from the law enforcement agencies to release all those who are deprived of their liberty these days, and act in accordance with the ratified international treaties of the Republic of Armenia without compromising political and lawless acts. We demand not to give up Serzh Sargsyan’s hopes and not to be involved in the crimes.
We urge international and diplomatic structures to respond immediately to the situation, avoiding unnecessary neutrality.
