The “National Center for Legal Researches” NGO announces the following as a result of the recent monitoring:
- Freedom of assembly in democratic societies, including marches, demonstrations, pickets, and participation (right) prevails over such rights as the right to rest and free movement.
- Preventing students from conducting a student strike by the educational establishments (university, vocational school, school etc.) and by restricting their right to participation by hindering their physical capabilities (such as closing classrooms or classrooms) is a violation of the constitutional right of these citizens.
- Obstruction of the functioning of the media is not only a criminal offense, but also a direct contradiction to the principles of a democratic and legal state.
- In its official statements, the RA Police does not have the power to present to citizens and media representatives requirements that are not legally defined: such as “maintenance of reasonable distance”. Presenting such claims may hinder the implementation of the functions of media representatives, taking into consideration that media representatives provide complete and objective coverage of the events, which may and may not be acceptable for the police.
The “National Center for Legal Researches” NGO strongly condemns any possible disproportionate action by the police against peaceful demonstrators, calls on the state responsible structures, to act exclusively within the framework of the RA legislation and provide its professional assistance to all applicants.
