The 2018-2020 Strategic Plan for the monitoring of pesticides, nitrates, heavy metals and genetically modified organisms in the herbal origin products will be approved on February 15 at the government session.
Monitoring will determine the products sold in the RA, where the residual material quantities exceed the permissible threshold and are considered dangerous for the life and health of the person, as well as identify GMO containing products.
The draft indicates that large-scale work on monitoring of pesticides, nitrates, heavy metals and genetically modified organisms in herbal origin products has not been implemented in Armenia so far, and the protection of the products of herbal origin has not been sufficiently implemented in our country.
Now it is envisaged to obtain and conduct laboratory analyze of herbal origin products for identification of pesticides, nitrates, heavy metals and genetically modified organisms and the permissible amounts of residual materials.
Thus, it will be possible to detect the products sold in the RA, where the residual material quantities exceed the allowable threshold and are considered dangerous for the life and health of the person, as well as identify GMO containing products. The population of our country will be protected from the use of hazardous foods. Certified and safe herbal products will be used in the Republic, which, in turn, will have a positive impact on people’s longevity and quality of life.
