RA Defense Ministry: 18 Bodies were subjected to Mockery and Derision

On April 11, the RA Deputy Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan received Mrs. Caroline Douilliez, the Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Yerevan.

During the meeting the parties discussed issues aimed at detecting the bodies of the victims and clarifying the fates of missing people along the entire length of the Karabakh-Azerbaijani line of contact as a result of aggressive military actions carried out by the Azerbaijani armed forces from April 2 to 5.

Davit Tonoyan thanked the ICRC head of delegation for the implementation of the military exchange activities held through the mediation of ICRC and OSCE Minsk Group representatives, as a result of which 18 soldiers bodies were transferred to the Armenian side on April 10.

Davit Tonoyan informed the ICRC head of delegation that all 18 bodies of the Armenian soldiers transferred by Azerbaijan were subjected to mockery and derision, which is not only a violation of the Geneva 4 Conventions of 1949 Common Article 3, Part 1, Paragraph 2, Sub point (a) (…To this end, the following acts are and shall remain prohibited at any time and in any place whatsoever with respect to the above-mentioned persons: (a) violence to life and person, in particular murder of all kinds, mutilation, cruel treatment and torture), Geneva Fourth Convention of 1949, Artcile 130, Paragraph 1, as well as a grave violation of the defined provisions by the Second Additional Protocol of 1949, Article 4, Part 2, but also a grave crime from the point of view of the criminal legislation of any legal state.

Davit Tonoyan also mentioned that the Armenian side will do its best so that the international community and specialist organizations condemn the crimes committed by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces. The RA Defense Ministry informs about it.
