On 25 February, the first meeting of the working group regarding conducting analysis on appropriateness of criminalizing illicit enrichment took place. The working group has been established by the 22 January 2016, Decree of the RA Minister of Justice.
The working group consists of the representatives of the “Armenian Young Lawyers Association”, “Freedom of Information Center”, “Protection of Rights without Boards” NGOs as well as the representatives of the RA Ministry of Justice.
This is a working platform which has been created as a result of cooperation between the Civil Society and the Government. Back in September 2015 the Republic of Armenia Ministry of Justice as a state authorized body in the anti-corruption sphere on the one side and the Civil Society represented by the CSOs’ Anti-Corruption Coalition, adopted a joint statement on the Establishment of the State – Civil Society Anti-Corruption Working Platform and the Anti-Corruption Working Groups
The statement was signed by the RA Deputy Minister of Justice: Suren Krmoyan on the one side and by the Founding Member of CSOs’ Anti-Corruption Coalition and Coordinator of the Secretariat, “Armenian Young Lawyers Association” Non-Governmental Organization, President: Karen Zadoyan and the Founding Member of CSOs’ Anti-Corruption Coalition, “Freedom of Information Center” Non Governmental Organization, President Shushan Doydoyan on the other.
The Information and Public Relations Department of the RA Ministry of Justice reports that the RA Deputy Minister of Justice Suren Krmoyan welcomed the participants and urged the working group on conducting analysis on appropriateness of criminalizing illicit enrichment, which has been established on the basis of the RA Anti-Corruption Strategy and the Government – Civil Society working platform to study the whole legal scope of fight against illicit enrichment of leading countries and recommend the possibly best solutions to the working group elaborating the New Criminal Code.
During the meeting, distribution of work for the study of legislation in different countries and for summary of the studies was decided under the leadership of the head of the working group Karen Hakobyan, the Deputy Chief of Staff of the RA Ministry of Justice. A period of one month for this purpose was set with the consent of the members of the working group.
