Zaruhi Postanjyan, the ombudsman’s candidate believes that the selection of the new defender is carried out in an improper format.
According to her, it is necessary to conduct collecting signatures among citizens if we want the process to be proper. The MP said this at today’s meeting of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs
Speaking about her nomination Mrs. Postanjyan said that she had to do this to create an alternative. It was really painful that all the well-known individuals refused to nominate for the position of Ombudsman. We decided do this as we actually participate in the establishment of the Institute.
“I have assumed this responsibility as there is no alternative,” she noted applying to Tigran Urikhanyan who had recommended another candidate. The delegate said that «I do not have any negative approach towards to your candidate, but he does not create any alternative».
In addition, Mrs. Postanjyan applied to Arman Tatoyan, the authorities’ candidate, she noted that the latter did not meet the standards. At the same time “Arman Tatoyan is introduced as an advocate of the authorities. I want to apply to the public, when we were applying to the ECHR, he goes there with the Prosecutor General. Nevertheless, I do not say that Mr. Tatoyan is a negative person, but according to the constitution he does not correspond to the Ombudsman’s standard.
