Arpine Hpvhannisyan participated in the Discussion on “Personal Data Protection and Freedom of Information”

On 29 January, the Personal Data Protection Agency of the RA Ministry of Justice and the Council of Europe organized a working discussion on “Personal Data Protection and Freedom of Information” on the occasion of the International Day of Personal Data Protection. The RA Minister of Justice Arpine Hovhannisyan, Head of the CoE Office in Yerevan, Natalia Vutova, as well as representatives from governmental departments and civil society organizations participated in the discussions.

Arpine Hovhannisyan congratulating the participants on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the International Personal Data Protection Day and mentioned that the RA Law on the Protection of Personal Data has provided regulations which should provide the state possibility to carry out more effective work in the area of personal data protection.

Head of the CoE Office in Yerevan, Natalia Vutova in her welcoming speech said that the European Convention for the Protection of Individuals, which Armenia ratified in 2012, is still the only obligatory international instrument in this sphere. The Treaty is open for signature by the member States and for accession by non-member States and may be an international standard.
