A few minutes before with 98 votes for and 71 votes, PACE approved the report “Inhabitants of Frontier Regions of Azerbaijan are deliberately deprived of Water” of the delegate from Bosnia Milica Marković.
This controversial report concerns the question of Sarsang reservoir, which PACE has been circulating in different forms since 2013, and which, last year, was included in the agenda of the PACE Winter Session.
The report notes the unfavorable conditions of Sarsang Reservoir, which can lead to major regional disaster causing great human losses. The report also indicates that the Reservoir “is located in one of Azerbaijan territories, which currently is occupied by Armenia.” The report also demands that Armenia should withdraw its armed forces from the regions and provide possibility to independent experts to examine the conditions of the reservoir and irrigation system.
