“Are we disturbing you?” The judge’s question to the sleeping defendant: From Nikolay Baghdasaryan’s Memory

Interview with advocate Nikolay Baghdasaryan:

– In your opinion what was the most important legal event of 2015?

– The adoption of the RA Constitution.

– What are your expectations from 2016?

– If you mean legal system then it is hardly to expect anything. But I have great expectations from the efficiency of the solution of the extrajudicial conflict resolutions.

– Is there any progress in justice in our country?

– I do not think so. If nothing was done how is it possible to change anything?

– Did corruption increase or decrease in justice in 2015?

– It is difficult to answer your question.

– Are you satisfied with the Executive and Legislative branches’ work?

– No, I am not.

– How do you celebrate New Year?

– Not by eating pork haunch. I prefer to relax more.

– Which was the scandalous judicial case of the year?

– I think Vardan Petrosyan’s case.

– What funny and interesting cases do you remember from you practice?

– The two sides were arguing for a case but the defendant was asleep. When he woke up for a moment the judge asked jokingly: “Are we disturbing you?” The latter, not understanding the main sense of the question, answered sincerely: “No, I had not listened to you”.
