Ms. Mira Gur-Arie, Director of Federal Judicial Center International Judicial Relations believes that it will be possible to fight against corruption in judiciary only through following faithfully the development of ethical and professional approaches.
“It is necessary to support the young judges to obtain professional independence. This would reduce the risk of corruption in the judiciary. It refers to the judges, the prosecutors and the lawyers,” she said in the interview with Iravaban.net.
Ms. Mira Gur-Arie, participates in the two-day training program organized in the Academy of Justice. Mr. James Buchanan, Senior Specialist for Curriculum of Federal Judicial Center of the US visited Armenia as well.
Ruben Melikyan, the Rector of the Academy of Justice welcomed the guests and expressed confidence that as a result of this course, the lecturers of the Academy will gain skills of teaching the professional lawyers.
Representatives of the Academy’s staff, judges, investigators as well as representatives of the School of Advocates attended the two-day training.
The participants of the workshop together with experts based on the theory and practical examples of the application of modern teaching techniques, organized scenes, and held discussions in large and small groups.
Ms Mira Gur-Arie, in the interview with Iravaban.net spoke about the project “Development of pedagogical Skills: The Technique and Art of Training the Judges.”
He drew comparisons between the Armenian and American judicial systems, emphasizing that they are quite different from each other, however somewhat similar in the educational aspect. Both aspire to excellence.
The distance training is one of the priorities of the Academy of Justice, and the Academy has developed a package for distance learning.
After getting acquainted with the work done Mira Gur-Arie and James Buchanan highly appreciated it and emphasized that the materials of the distance training have been developed with quality and application of advanced methods.
Speaking about the success and efficiency of the program Mr. Buchanan concluded saying, “this is only the end of the beginning.”
