Corruption Risks in the Medical Establishments of Gegharkunik Marz

“Corruption Risks in Medicine Circulation in Hospitals” project is currently implemented in in=patient medical establishments of a number of cities of Gegharkunik Marz. The project is aimed at reducing the existing corruption risks in the sphere.

In the interview with Iravaban.net, the Project Manager Ms Satenik Badeyan introduced the main objective of the project and mentioned that the project was initially planned for four months, but later it was extended for one additional month on the assumption of the fact of staff changes in the staff of the regional administration, and that had an essential impact on the healthcare sphere.

“We have had some problems connected with the right to enter the medical establishments and thus the negation process lasted longer than it was planned unless the regional administration provided permission to enter the medical establishments,” Satenik Badeyan said.

Currently the 5th month of the project will be completed soon and the project report will be published in a few days. The monitoring results will be sent to the Ministry of Healthcare.

“Today we sent a letter to the Ministry of Healthcare, requesting to provide opportunity to submit the project results,” Ms Badeyan added.

To our question whether the monitoring had registered positive changes, she replied, that such short term monitoring only reveals and provide opportunity to eliminate the existing problems, thus promoting to reduction of the corruption occurrences.

“We have raised the problems that exist in the healthcare sphere of the republic. That is our objective is to promote to the reduction of corruption risks through raising the existing problems in the region,” Satik Badeyan said.

The “Multi-Faceted Anti-Corruption Promotion” Project is implemented by the Armenian Young Lawyers Association and the “Freedom of Information Center” NGO, by the financing of the EU and the OSCE Yerevan Office.
