As we already informed, the National Assembly started its 4-day sittings today. Today the Parliament continued the discussion on the annual report on “The activities of the RA Human Rights Defender and on the violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Armenia during 2013”.
Member of the Prosperous Armenia party fraction at the National Assembly Elinar Vardanyan stated in her speech that nothing was undertaken by the state authorities to solve the problems underlined in every report.
“It is like we live in the famous film “Groundhog day”. In a year nothing has changed. The Human Rights Defender reported the problems of 2013, but nothing has moved”, said the deputy, and she also quoted a part of the Human Rights Defender`s 2013 Report, when the police officers infringed on the rights of the protest action, and the Ombudsman was suggesting to hold liable the policemen implementing similar actions. “But in 2014 we see that the same problems repeat, for example a policeman hindered the activities of a journalist, and nobody was held liable”, stated the deputy, adding: “Yes, Human rights are violated in the Republic of Armenia, and they are violated every day, they are violated by state institutions”.
