On 19 June, 2015 a Training of Trainers was organized for 6 active youngsters at the regional office of the “Armenian Young Lawyers Association” NGO in Lori Region in the framework of the “Influencing Women`s Rights Agenda” Project which is organized with the financial support of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Republic of Armenia. In the scope of the ToT the participants were introduced to the topic of “Women`s reproductive rights, including sex-selective abortion issues”.
The fundamental reproductive rights of women, the legal norms ensuring maternity security, the current situation and issues with regards the sex-selective abortions in Armenia were presented to the participants. The Training participants discussed the causes of the sex-selective abortions in Armenia, as well as the possible ways of resolving the issue. The Training participants highlighted the importance of the general awareness-raising of the society and change of attitude in the fight against this phenomena, and the above-mentioned might bring to systemic changes.
After the end of the Training the participants will hold public awareness seminars on women`s rights in various educational institutions and communities.
