These Actions of Azerbaijan are Provocative and aim to nullify that Progress: Nikol Pashinyan

Before the beginning of the Government Session, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan referred to the situation at the border. He noted that the intensity of active shelling has somewhat decreased after adequate and effective retaliatory actions of the Armenian army.

“Experience shows that Azerbaijan needs the negotiation process only to get a reasoning for escalation and war, and escalations are used exclusively to nullify any progress made in the negotiations. These actions of the Azerbaijani side are provocative and aim, among others, to nullify the progress that was registered during the negotiations that took place in Washington on 1-4 May. Today’s provocation also aims to disrupt the negotiations scheduled for Sunday in Brussels in a trilateral format and in Chișinău on 1 June in a five-party format,” he said.

According to Nikol Pashinyan, this is the proven tactic of Azerbaijan. “The main purpose of the escalation of the situation is to divert the attention of the international community from the fact of setting up an illegal checkpoint in the Lachin corridor. Creating a new crisis in a new place, forgetting the old one.”

He noted that, as of now, he has not changed his decision to go to Brussels for Sunday’s negotiations. “How likely is it that a peace agreement will be signed with Azerbaijan on Sunday?” Unfortunately, such a possibility is very small, because the draft bilateral agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations is still very preliminary and it is too early to talk about signing it.”
