On 17 March, the National Polytechnic University of Armenia together with the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia organized a round table discussion on “Climate Change and Sustainable Development”. It aimed to address climate change trends and highlight sustainable development issues in education, innovative engineering solutions, renewable and green energy, disaster risk management, efficient use of water resources, implementation of monitoring and early warning systems and others.

“Such discussions are very important for the Polytechnic University, because all over the world any change and innovative idea, a challenge born as a result of science, can be implemented through the formation of relevant institutes and the organization of education as a result of this formation. I believe that we can achieve results when the state and the commitment undertaken by the state, international partners and educational systems work together, synchronously, each in their role to realize their goal,” NPUA Rector Gor Vardanyan said in his welcoming speech.

Speaking about the subject of the discussion, the Rector noted that he often witnesses that both the professional community and citizens in general do not understand what it is about, what is the sustainable development program, what is climate change.

RA Deputy Minister of Economy Ani Ispiryan noted that sustainable, green development is one of the government’s priorities.

“In this case, we have our partners, private companies that work in the field, the involvement of various parts of the state system, but at the moment we really need personnel, the involvement of the educational complex in this process,” the Deputy Minister said.

Hayk Igityan presented a report on climate change and sustainable development, which was followed by a working discussion.
