I am sure that Armenian-American Relations will continue to develop and expand: Alen Simonyan to Newly Appointed U.S. Ambassador

On February 27, the RA NA President Alen Simonyan received the newly appointed U.S. Ambassador Kristina Kvien. Congratulating the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, the RA NA President expressed confidence that during the implementation of her mission the Armenian-American relations will continue developing and expanding.

The RA NA President noted that the United States plays a key role in the political and economic life of Armenia, and the Armenian-American dialogue is of strategic character.

Alen Simonyan highlighted the U.S. assistance to the systemized reforms being implemented in our country, which promote the development and strengthening of democracy.

The sides touched upon the situation in Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh because of Azerbaijani aggression, expressing concern about the humanitarian disaster caused among the Artsakh Armenians. Alen Simonyan underscored that in this direction one of the important steps is the decision made by the UN International Court of Justice, which makes Azerbaijan to ensure with its assumed obligations the unimpeded movement of vehicle and people through Lachin Corridor. He stressed that in the implementation of the decision the United States can play decisive and weighty role.

Ideas were exchanged over the necessity of the increase of the pressure towards Azerbaijan, including the possible imposing of sanctions by the international community. Concluding his speech, the RA NA President noted that Armenia does not have territorial demands towards its neighbors, adopted the path of democracy and continues remaining faithful to the agenda of reaching peace.
