Before the start of the Government session, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Minister of High Tech Industry Vahagn Khachaturyan had been nominated by 65 deputies of the National Assembly. He noted that this gives some confidence that he will not only run, but will also be elected president.

“I am not congratulating at this moment. Probably it will not be appropriate to congratulate on the occasion, it is appropriate to congratulate on the occasion of being elected. I hope that before the election, which will take place in March, you will play your role as a HTI minister, during which time we will continue to work effectively together in the Government,” he said.

Vahagn Khachaturyan thanked for the trust and said that he understood what it meant to nominate a candidate.

“There are definitely more worthy people within the political party, but the decision of the political party deserves a very high assessment for me personally, because it should be to stand above everything for the sake of the goals of the current government,” he said.

The presidential candidate emphasized that what has been planned will give the opportunity to implement the programs that are talked about every day in the future.

Nikol Pashinyan said that due to the Constitution, the RA President carries out supra-party activities and is guided by national state interests.

“I believe that the Government is also guided by State and National interests, the National Assembly should also work here, the principle of separation of powers should work here. The Constitution has clearly outlined the powers of the various branches of government. Yes, I consider it very important that the branches of the government complement each other and not oppose each other, this does not mean that there is no debate, I must emphasize, there is a constant debate between the Government and the National Assembly, moreover, there is a constant debate within the Government ” the Prime Minister stated.
