What is High Treason and what is the mitigating circumstance for that act?
High treason is considered a particularly serious crime, punishable by 10-15 years in prison with or without confiscation of property. The provision of state secrets by the citizens of the Republic of Armenia to the enemy, and conducting of negotiations with the enemy is considered a state betrayal.
According to lawyer Tamara Baghdasaryan, the article has been classified as a particularly serious crime since 2003, and has not been changed so far.
In the case of high treason, under certain circumstances, the person may be released from liability.
