The Organizing Committee of the Armenian State University of Economics has issued a statement, which reads:
“Diana Galoyan was elected rector by 2/3 of the votes of ASUE Board members in the competition held on 17 July, 2020. According to Article 15, Clause 4 of the RA Law on Higher and Postgraduate Professional Education, the Government of the Republic of Armenia approves the results of the election of the Rector, which has not been done more than two months after the election.
On 28 August, 2020, ASUE Scientific Council applied to the RA Prime Minister, the RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports asking to explain why the legally elected rector has not been appointed to the post yet.
Yesterday, the employees of the university and the students marched to the RA Government to get clarification on this issue, but so far ASUE has not received any answer.
Please note that the educational process of the University by the decision of the majority staff is temporarily suspended until the appointment of D. Galoyan to the position of rector in accordance with the law.
Being aware of the responsibility towards the students and other beneficiaries, apologizing to them, we inform that this forced step is in the interests of the students as well, as the quality of education presupposes long-term stability.
At the same time, we invite the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, the representatives of the RA Government to the university to get acquainted with the position of ASUE staff.”
It should be reminded that yesterday, on 22 September, a part of ASUE students and lecturers held a protest action in front of the government building.
