Events may develop in such a Way that Coercive Measures may be required: Nikol Pashinyan

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during the special sitting of the National Assembly that there is no information on the new infected so far. There are 30 people with coronavirus in Armenia.

Today the Government of the Republic of Armenia has declared a state of emergency, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He noted that the need to impose a state of emergency was due to a number of factors. According to Pashinyan, the law on establishing a state of emergency does not regulate the definition of such a situation during epidemics.

“Our dear compatriots do not always follow the code of conduct proposed by the MoH and the government. In many cases, events can develop so that coercive measures that imply that certain restrictions on the rights of citizens should occur.

The Prime Minister also announced that a Commandant’s Office had been formed and Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan had been appointed a Commandant.

Pashinyan also informed that the first infected person in Armenia, detected on March 1, is already at home; “Statistics show that coronavirus is dangerous for people of 70years old and over, 90 percent of deaths are in this age group.”

He noted that there are sufficient food reserves in the Republic of Armenia at present and it will not occur in a month. After the decision is made in the National Assembly, the government will issue a message.

“We must come out of this crisis stronger,” the Prime Minister said.
