Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced plans to create the post of Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russian Federation and has offered the post to Dmitry Medvedev: Interfax reports.

In that position, Medvedev will have to deal with Russia’s defense and security issues.

Putin has promised to nominate his own candidate for deputy chairman of the Security Council in the near future.

On 15 January, Putin addressed the Federal Assembly and proposed changes to the Russian Constitution.

After that, the Russian government, led by Medvedev, resigned. Ministers will continue to perform their duties until a new cabinet is appointed.
