SIS launched a Criminal Case on alleged Crime of Torture of a Citizen by Police

A criminal case has been launched on the case of alleged torture of a citizen by by police officers on the basis of Article 309, Part 2 of the Criminal Code. Iravaban.net learned this from the SIS spokeswoman Marina Ohanjanyan.

Article 309 (2) of the Criminal Code provides that Actions willfully committed by an official which obviously exceed his authorities committed with violence, weapons, or special measures, are punished with imprisonment for the term of 2 to 6 years, with deprivation of the right to hold certain posts or practice certain activities for up to 3 years.

Notably, the RA Police had informed that on the assignment of Acting Chief of Police Arman Sargsyan, the Police Department of Internal Security is conducting inspections. The authorities of Chambarak department head Narek Simonyan have been temporarily suspended.

Earlier we reported that on 21 November , a video containing torture scenes was circulated on the Internet, according to media reports that a police officer allegedly tortured a citizen in a police station.
