The issue of electing the members of the Corruption Prevention Committee is being discussed at the National Assembly, on 18 November.

“I have been against the formation of the CPC in this manner from the very first day, the draft that the President of the National Assembly brought and naturally the reservations are largely related to the competition order and its neutralization. We have completely eliminated this order, though it was the demand of different layers of our civil society, and in addition, why not the recommendations of the international community, the principles that we had to follow,” independent MP Arman Babajanyan said.

According to him, corruption and the fight against corruption were the main motives of the revolution. “Perhaps during the previous discussion of the draft law I said that this is a mostly established order in the ‘former’ Armenia, which we should mostly avoid and find new solutions for ourselves, while we had a situation where we could not find solutions between CSO segments and the state, the power went the easiest way. The factions came to an agreement and such a solution was reached,” the MP said.

Arman Babajanyan also noted that the opposition was given the opportunity to be present and not raise the issues it had previously voiced.

“The final version of the law did not meet the requirement of applying the principle of competition in the composition of the Board of the committee, as a result the Committee and the Board are formed on the basis of the principle of supremacy of power and as a result, the civil society representatives who are playing an apparent role in the fight against corruption in our country are left out of the Corruption Prevention Committee and its Board. Without the involvement of anti-corruption public units, we cannot effectively prevent corruption in our country,” he said.
