Today, the members of the Anti-Corruption Council gathered at the governmental session hall.
Participants sitting in the second row of the half-empty hall were asked to sit nearer. The Council started its activity.
The First Deputy of Minister of Justice Arsen Mkrtchyan made a speech on approving the Anti-Corruption strategy of the Republic of Armenia; he touched upon the issue of calling to criminal or administrative responsibility of the legal entities as well.
After Arsen Mkrtchyan’s speech, the Executive Director of Transparency International Anti-Corruption NGO Varuzhan Hoktanyan was interested whether there will be a chapter about the corruption in the new Draft Criminal Code. Arsen Mkrtchyan said that they intended to have discussion concerning that and then they would make a decision.
Hovik Abrahamyan said: “This issue is very topical and important; the organizations sometimes make corruption deals. I instruct the Ministry of Justice to include the issue in the Criminal and Administrative Codes.”
Further, the President of the RA Public Council, the member of the Council Vazgen Manukyan raised another question. He said that he had tried to search the word “corruption” on the internet, to find what phenomenon it is but with no result. The member of the Anti-Corruption Council suggested clarifying that definition so that it will be apprehensible both for them and for the public at large.
Davit Harutyunyan, Minister – Chief of RA Government Staff said that there is a definition and is registered.
