A Criminal Case was initiated on Hindrance to the Legal Professional Activities of the journalist

As a result of studies of published reports, materials and video recordings of mass media information was obtained on the issue, that aimed to stop the protest actions and then the sit-in demonstration organized by “No to Plunder!” civil initiative at Baghramyan Avenue against electricity price hike, on 23 June 2015 and the following days during the realization of special measures people actualizing official special services applied force, caused physical damages both to demonstrators and journalists covering the events and also damaged or demolished the video cameras of the latter, so hindering to legal professional activities of the journalists and causing damages to the rights and legal interests of people, organizations, society and the state.

The Special Investigation Service of the RA informs that a criminal case was initiated pursuant to Article 309, Part 2, Article 164, Part 2 and Article 185, Part 1 of the RA criminal Code on hindrance to the legal professional activities of a journalist, willful destruction or damaging the property committed by an official abusing official position.

Preliminary investigation is in process.

Note: The suspect or the accused of the alleged offence is deemed innocent unless his or her innocence is proved by virtue of the effective court verdict in the manner prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia.
