The RA Ministry of Justice informs that on 24 June, Hovhannes Manukyan, the RA Minister of Justice and Giorgi Mghebrishvili, Georgia’s Minister of Corrections and Probation signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the Area of Penal System.
In the framework of the signed document, the parties will cooperate in the directions of effective management, development of the legislation related to the penal system and ensuring security of penitentiaries.
The RA Minister of Justice Hovhannes Manukyan congratulated the participants on the fact of strengthen cooperation and hoped that the both sides will benefit from implementation of the measures set in the memorandum. Speaking about the success that Armenia and Georgia achieved as a result of successful cooperation in the judicial sphere, the Minister stressed the importance of exchange of experience in the penal area and avoiding repetition of the mistakes.
Giorgi Mghebrishvili, Georgia’s Minister of Corrections and Probation expressed his gratitude to the RA Minister of Justice who was the first who called him and expressed support after the disaster that occurred in Georgia.
Giorgi Mghebrishvili, mentioned that his country has a vast experience in the probation sphere and is ready and willing to exchange that experience with Armenia and share the success achieved and present the their options to avoid the possible complications.
The memorandum provides organization of ensuring the material and housing issue of the prisoners and detainees, medical services, reformation and reintegration and joint educational and experience exchange programs in the area of probation service.
Notably, tomorrow the Forum of Armenian-Georgian Cooperation Legal Cooperation will start in Yerevan. The RA Minister of Justice Hovhannes Manukyan, his Georgian counterpart Tea Tsulukiani, and Georgia’s Minister of Corrections and Probation Giorgi Mghebrishvili will attend the forum.
