Convict who is in Prison for 20 Years went on a Hunger Strike

Stepan Grigoryan who was sentenced to life imprisonment, began a hunger strike on 2 June. The Press Secretary of the Penitentiary Service of the RA Ministry of Justice told this to Iravaban.net. He also said that the convicts state of health is normal.

The convict has stated the reasons for his going on a hunger strike in his letter to the President Serzh Sargsyan. The Reason is that the administration of the Penitentiary Service has delayed the consideration of the issue of his early release for a year.

Stepan Grigoryan was sentenced to death for participation in a murder in 1996. According to the Decree 103 of 1 August of 2003, signed by the President Robert Kocharyan his death penalty was replaced with the life imprisonment.

On 14 May, the 20 years of his imprisonment was accomplished and he submitted application for early release according to the law. But the consideration of his application was postponed by one year.
