Today, members of “The Centennial without this Regime” gathered in front of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Erebuni and Nubarashen Administrative Districts for the defense of the arrested members of the movement.
The movement “The Centennial without this Regime” and its retainers demanded to release the leader of the movement Zhirayr Sefilyan, the president of the Founding Parliament Garegin Chugaszyan, Deputy of the FP president Varuzhan Avetisyan, MPs of FP Pavel Manukyan, Aram Hakobyan and member of the movement Gevorg Safaryan.
Let us remind that from the morning of 7 April, searches were carried out in the Yerevan and regional offices of FP, in the office of “Sardarapat” movement and in the houses of several members. After the search they were “invited” to the police departments and arrested. At the moment 7 people are arrested with suspicion on acting in accordance with Point 1 of Article 225 of the RA Criminal Code.
The mentioned legal norm determines: “Organization of mass disorder, accompanied with violence, pogroms, arson, destruction or damage to property, using fire-arms, explosives or explosive devices, or by armed resistance to the representative of the authorities”.
According to the attorney of the Founding Parliament Hayk Grigoryan, they are political prisoners and the undertaken steps were an obvious order. One of the evidences is the protocol formed in police.
“Forming the protocol they have written that the aim of the arrest was to prevent implementation of crime, the basis for it is the fact they have been arrested at the moment of committing the crime. While they were not arrested in their apartments but in the building of preliminary investigation.
Zaruhi Postanjyan has visited the arrested members of FP in the place of holding the arrestees. She mentioned that she has not noticed traces of violence on them: boys are excited and determined; they say that the fight is going on and that “24 April is still in the force”.
Postanjyan qualified this step of authorities as display of fear, with complete absence of legal norms. She urged the authorities to free the prisoners:” They have been arrested for having different political viewpoints, as it is always done in Armenia. It is just an illegal political persecution”.
The next meeting will be on 10 April at 14.00 o’clock.
