On March 26-27, High-Level Conference on the “Implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights: Our shared responsibility” was held in Brussels under the Belgian Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. Informs the Press Service of the RF MFA
Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Presidents of PACE and ECHR, CoE Commissioner for Human Rights, First-Deputy-President of the European Commission and high-level delegations of 47 member-states of CoE participated at the event. Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Garen Nazarian, Deputy Minister of Justice, Deputy Representative of the Government of Armenia at the European Court of Human Rights Arman Tatoyan and Permanent Representative to the Council of Europe Armen Papikyan represented Armenia at the conference.
The purpose of the conference is to reaffirm member-states’ commitment to guarantee protection of rights enshrined in the European Convention on Human Rights, as well as independence and authority of European Court of Human Rights.
In their remarks, members of the Armenian delegation reiterated Armenia’s support to the efforts of strengthening the Convention structures, presented the implementation of Convention guarantees and Armenia’s activity towards execution of the Court’s decisions, as well as the results reached recently.
The Brussels Declaration that was adopted at the conference will bring new impetus to the reforms from 2010 on, stressing importance of implementation of the Convention, i.e. states’ common responsibility and execution of ECHR decisions. The declaration enshrines the activities undertaken after the Brighton Conference and reaffirms common political commitment towards totally efficient
Convention structure. The declaration includes also an Action Plan to outline the steps of member-states, ECHR and CoE, directed towards the implementation of goals enshrined in the declaration.
