On 2 March, at noon the individual entrepreneurs providing taxi services organized a protest action in the Republic Square. They had blocked the carriage way and left only one traffic zone. After the talks with the police they opened the carriage way.
The drivers complained about the new licensing arrangement according to which for a monthly fee of taxi service was set at 12,000AMD, or 34,000 for a quarterly fee and 120,000 as an annual fee. In addition, the drivers complained against the requirement to install taximeters, which have a rather high cost of 50,000AMD. They also informed that there work was being complicated by ungrounded fines and the existence of red lines.
Arthur Arakelyan, First Deputy Minister of Transportation and Communication of the RA met for negotiations with the drivers. The drivers provided the issue of their concern to the Deputy Minister. 5 representatives of the drivers went into the building of the Ministry with Arthur Arakelyan to discuss the existing problems.
