The RA Chamber of Advocates is concerned

On 15 January 2015, massive protest actions were held in Gyumri and in Yerevan on the fact of the murder of c members of Avetisyans’ family in Gyumri on 12 January, by Valeri Permyakov, soldier of the RF Military base in Armenia.

On the same day at 22:00 in the evening several dozens of citizens participated in the candle lighting ceremony in Azatutyan (Freedom) Square in Yerevan. Lusine Sahakyan, Member of Board of the RA Chamber of Advocates as well as members of the Chamber Avetik Ishkhanyan and Argishti Kiviryan were at the gathering as well.

As a several dozens of the citizen participants of the action Lusine Sahakyan, Avetik Ishkhanyan and Argishti Kiviryan were deprived of their liberty by violence and taken to different police departments of the city at around 22:05pm. Avetik Ishkhanyan was taken to Kentron Police Department and kept in prison for about two hours. Then he was told that the police brought him to the department for his allegedly disobeying a lawful demand of the policemen who was carrying out his duties.

Lusine Sahakyan and Argishti Kiviryan were taken without any reasoning to the location near the Kanaker-Zrytun Police Department and then after 50 minutes, without even taking them into the Police Department, were released with another citizen who was brought there as well.

The RA Chamber of Advocates expresses its deep concern over the restriction of rights and freedoms of its members and urges the state bodies to carry out comprehensive investigation of the fact and as a result to call the guilty persons o responsibility.
