Independent commissions on penitentiaries reached to the level where we can record mass violations of human rights. This was stated by NA independent deputy Edmon Marukyan during the discussion of the annual report on “The activities of the RA Human Rights Defender and on the violation of human rights and fundamental freedoms in Armenia during 2013”.
He suggested to the Human Rights Defender Karen Andreasyan to study this problem. “We have talked about this for multiple times, time passes and nothing is done, independent commissions work on their own disposition. They refuse to solve the issues with regard to conditional early releases, they do not even implement court decisions”, said the deputy, adding that he was ready to support the Ombudsman on these matters through providing information that would prove his words.
Mr Marukyan expressed his opinion that these commissions should be dissolved for their inefficient work. “There shouldn`t be any similar commissions, and their functions should be implemented on another base”, accentuated the deputy.
