During the peacekeeping mission in Nagorno-Karabakh, 6 servicemen were killed, and several others received physical injuries of varying degrees. The statement of the Russian Embassy in Armenia regarding the activities of Russian peacekeeping personnel in Nagorno Karabakh stated.
“In an extremely difficult situation, peacekeepers monitor the situation around the clock and make active efforts, including life-threatening ones, to protect the civilian population of Nagorno-Karabakh,” the statement said.
The Embassy reminded that during the military operations, the peacekeeping forces organized the evacuation of the civilian population from the most dangerous areas and provided medical assistance to the victims, settling in the base camp and separate observation posts.
“Just yesterday, more than 8,000 citizens were assisted, including with food and places for recreation, including the children”, explained the diplomatic mission.
The statement also mentions that since the escalation of the conflict, the command of the RAAF has made active mediation efforts to de-escalate the situation, as a result of which it was possible to reach an agreement between the Karabakh-Azerbaijani parties on the cessation of hostilities and the start of negotiations.
“The Embassy expresses its deepest condolences to the families and relatives of the dead and wounded servicemen of the Russian peacekeeping force, who have been carrying out difficult tasks since the first day of deployment to provide practical assistance to meet the vital needs of the population of Nagorno-Karabakh,” the diplomatic mission noted.
Yesterday, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced that a car with Russian peacekeepers was shot at while returning from the observation post, and all five servicemen were killed.
