According to the World Health Organization, the number of cases of COVID-19 is increasing worldwide, and the number of hospitalizations caused by several subtypes of Omicron is increasing in the European region. RA Ministry of Health informs.
“Basically, the versions of Omicron BA.2.86 (Pirola) and EG.5 (Eris) are circulating.
A new sub-strain omicron acrux was recently discovered in Armenia. According to the data of 12 September, in the last 7 days, 71 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in our country, which increased by 29 compared to the previous week (42 cases).
The positive results of testing have also increased compared to the previous week, making up 29.1% (previous week: 28.4%).
Given that acute respiratory infections (ARIs), including coronavirus disease, seasonal morbidity and hospitalizations are projected to increase, WHO continues to encourage all countries to increase surveillance, testing, sequencing for COVID-19 to assess the risk of new circulating variants:
In order to prevent and early detect cases of ARI and coronavirus disease in Armenia, the Ministry of Health urges:
- get vaccinated against seasonal flu and coronavirus disease,
- in case of symptoms typical of an acute respiratory infection: fever (up to 38-40◦ C), headache, muscle pain, feeling broken, sore throat, dry cough, runny nose, contact a medical organization for testing for the coronavirus disease and receiving timely medical help and care.
For the purpose of early detection of COVID-19 in primary health care and medical organizations, testing of suspected cases is now being carried out among patients with ARI,” the Ministry informs.
