On August 20, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received the Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin, on the occasion of the end of her diplomatic mission in Armenia.
During the meeting regional security and stability issues were touched upon. Minister Mirzoyan particularly emphasised the urgency of taking steps to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, which is deepening by the hour as a result of the illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan. It was emphasised that the discussion held in the UN Security Council also showed the understanding of the severe consequences of the humanitarian crisis for the people of Nagorno-Karabakh and the importance of reopening of the Lachin corridor in line with the November 9, 2020 Statement and Orders of International Court of Justice of February 22 and July 6, 2023.
Ararat Mirzoyan emphasised that such worsening of the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh can seriously undermine the efforts of Armenia and the international community to establish stability in the region.
Issues related to the activities of the EU civilian monitoring mission in Armenia were also discussed at the meeting.
In his speech, Ararat Mirzoyan noted that he highly appreciates the ambassador’s contribution to the development of the Armenia-EU partnership, emphasising the important achievements recorded during her tenure and awarded her with an honorary medal of the Foreign Ministry of Armenia.
