The Elections of the Yerevan Council of Elders will be held on 17 September

The elections of the Yerevan Council of Elders will be held on 17 September. The Government will take a decision on this today, at the session of 13 July.

In the justification of the draft decision, it is mentioned that the last elections of the Yerevan Council of Elders took place on 23 September, 2018. The Council took office on 10 October, 2018. Its term of office expires on 10 October, 2023.

According to part 1 of Article 127 of the “Electoral Code of the Republic of Armenia” constitutional law, “Regular elections of the Yerevan Council of Elders shall be held no earlier than 30 and no later than 20 days before the expiry of powers of the Council of Elders.” According to the above settlement, the election must be scheduled for 17 September (as the only Sunday in the mentioned interval).

In connection with the adoption of the Government’s decision “On appointing regular election of the Council of Elders of Yerevan”, there is no demand for additional financial resources, and no changes are expected in the revenues and expenses of the state budget of the Republic of Armenia.

In order to ensure the deadlines stipulated by the constitutional law “Electoral Code of the Republic of Armenia”, it is necessary that this draft be adopted during the session of the Government on 13 July, 2023.
