Today, Armenia celebrates the Constitution Day and the Day of the State Symbols

Today, 5 July, Armenia celebrates the Constitution Day. The same day is also celebrated as the Day of State Symbols.

On 5 July, 1995, the Draft Mother Law was put to a national referendum and approved by the people. It was the first Constitution of independent Armenia.

The Constitution was amended in 2005. Changes were also made in 2015.

“The Armenian people – taking as a basis the fundamental principles of the Armenian Statehood and the nation-wide objectives enshrined in the Declaration on the Independence of Armenia, having fulfilled the sacred behest of its freedom-loving ancestors for the restoration of the sovereign state, committed to the strengthening and prosperity of the fatherland, with a view of ensuring the freedom of generations, general well-being and civic solidarity, assuring the allegiance to universal values – hereby adopt the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia,” is stated in the Constitution.

5 July is a non-working day.
