Ara Zohrabyan, rector of the Academy of Advocates of the Republic of Armenia, published a photo on his Facebook page, stating: “Protest action of lawyers near the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs”.

It should be noted that this is not the first protest action.

Ara Zohrabyan mentioned that they have submitted a written request to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which has already been joined by 878 lawyers.

“We, the undersigned lawyers, realizing our professional mission in the protection of citizens’ rights, respecting the institution of the police, appreciating the role of a dignified police officer, based on the goal of eradicating violence from the police system,

1. We strongly condemn the actions of the Central C9v9sion of Yerevan City Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other police officers on 06.07.2023; beating lawyer Karen Alaverdyan, applying handcuffs to him, using tear gas, as well as arresting and searching the lawyer;
2. We request the Ministry of Internal Affairs to immediately terminate the powers of the police officers who participated in the beating of lawyer Karen Alaverdyan, including Albert Mkrtchyan, Davit Davtyan, Hrant Iskandaryan, Narek Khachatryan and Seryozha Hovakimyan.
3. We demand from the Ministry of Internal Affairs to terminate the powers of the Head of the Central Department of the Yerevan City Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” Zohrabyan read.
