The friendly countries of RA consider that the closing of the Lachin Corridor is a consequence of the unresolved issue of Artsakh and are trying to agree with Azerbaijan on the issue of sending a monitoring group to Artsakh, including environmental issues.
Aram Sargsyan, Head of the “Republic” Party, writes on his Facebook page.
“According to the assessment of the monitoring group, a UN peacekeeping or deterrent mandate is given. The UN can also give such a mandate to the Russian forces in place, but in that case they must act under the UN charter and auspices. Naturally, Azerbaijan, in my opinion, as well as Russia, are not interested in the appearance of new forces in the region. Therefore, in order to get rid of the pressure of such a scenario, Aliyev will try, indirectly agreeing with the Nagorno-Karabakh Government, to conduct a unilateral inspection of the Tsaghkashen mine and, having agreed to the non-operation of the metallurgical complex, open the way.
The free access of the international observation groups to Artsakh and their monitoring should become the main demand of both the RA Government and the public, as well as the Artsakh Armenians. It is impossible to find a logical excuse for denying the entry of international observation groups to Artsakh, and such a demand not only brings the MFA of Azerbaijan to a dead end, but also makes it even more obvious that they are not constructive and operate in the Russian field.
The demand for observation groups to enter Artsakh is one of the best tools to put Azerbaijan under political pressure, which should be applied in all dimensions. In the case of other approaches, of course, the road will be opened, but it is not excluded that it will be closed again.
And we need long-term and stable guarantees of peacekeeping and uninterrupted communication between Artsakh and Armenia, which can be given by the international peacekeepers acting under the mandate of the UN,” Sargsyan said.
