Karen Andreasyan, the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, proposed the candidacy of Davit Balayan, the judge of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan, for the position of judge of the Criminal Court of Appeal.
In a conversation with Iravaban.net, Lilit Shaboyan, the spokesperson of the SJC, said that Davit Balayan declined the proposal for that position.
“To propose Davit Balayan, a candidate of the criminal specialization section of the list of candidates for promotion to be appointed as a judge in the Courts of Appellate, to submit his candidacy for the vacant position of the judge of the Criminal Court of Appeal for the nomination by the President of the Republic,” the decision of the SJC, which was already sent to the President of the Republic of Armenia stated.
Below is Judge Davit Balayan’s biography
Davit Balayan was born in 1975, in the city of Yerevan, in the family of a servant.
Education:
In 1992 – graduated from secondary school No. 76 in Yerevan.
In 1997 – graduated from the Faculty of Law of Grigor Zohrap University.
Work experience
From 1997 to 1999 – member of the RA Union of Advocates.
From 1999 to 2001 – held the position of assistant judge of the Court of Appeals for Criminal and Military Cases of the Republic of Armenia.
From 2001 to 2005 – held the position of judge of the Court of First Instance of Gegharkunik marz, RA.
From 2005 to 2015 – held the position of judge of the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Ajapnyak and Davtashen administrative districts of Yerevan city.
By the decree of the RA President of 7 February, 2015, he was appointed the Chairman of the Court of First Instance of Shengavit Administrative District of Yerevan.
According to the RA NA Law No. HO-34-N of 21 December, 2017, he continues to serve as a Judge of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan.
Other information
From 1993 to 1994 – served in the RA border guard troops.
Participated in many international conferences in Armenia and abroad (USA, France, Romania, etc.).
Married, has 3 children.
