The Parliament discussed the issue of making the RA minimum monthly salary 75,000 AMD from 1 January, 2023

As a result of the construction of relevant mathematical models and the study of international experience, it is proposed that in from 1 January 2023 , RA minimum monthly salary should be increased from 68,000 AMD to 75,000 AMD. Ruben Sargsyan, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, said this during the regular sessions of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.

As a result of the construction of appropriate mathematical models and the study of international experience, it is proposed to increase the minimum monthly salary in RA from 68,000 AMD to 75,000 AMD starting 1 January, 2023. Ruben Sargsyan, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, said this during the regular sessions of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia.

The package of the draft laws “On Amendments to the Law on “Minimum Monthly Salary”” and “On Changes and Amendments to the Labor Code of the Republic of Armenia” authored by the Government was discussed in the first reading on 15 November.

The draft packages propose to make changes in the size of the provisions of monthly and hourly tariffs, increasing it. The initiative stems from the Government’s Action Plan. The current socio-economic situation, as well as the results of the analysis of the databases containing information about the macro-economic indicators of the country, was taken into account while developing the draft packages. The draft packages were discussed in the head committee and received a positive conclusion.

Member of the Labor and Social Affairs Standing Committee Zaruhi Batoyan, noting that the draft packages are an integral part of the implementation of the Government’s plans, emphasized that the Government has set to makr the minimum wage 85,000 drams until 2026.

She added that as of October, 2022, a record has been set in Armenia in terms of jobs. 691,000 jobs were registered. In the period from September, 2018 to October, 2022 The number of jobs increased by 108,000. “Fixing the minimum wage does not only have a financial expression, but also contains certain social guarantees,” the co-speaker concluded, urging to vote in favor of the draft.
