Pashinyan talked with Putin about the demarcation process of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border as well

At the meeting held today, on 31 October, with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh is important for Armenia. RIA Novosti writes.

“For us, the issue of the withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh, where they invaded in March of this year, is very important. Despite the high-level agreements, the Azerbaijani troops have not yet left the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh. I expect the settlement of this issue during today’s discussions,” the RA Prime Minister said.

Tass writes that Nikol Pashinyan also referred to the demarcation process Armenia-Azerbaijan border.

“As for the border demarcation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, before the start of the works, we have repeatedly emphasized that the process must be preceded by the creation of mechanisms to increase the level of security and stability on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Russia’s position was that the demarcation process itself will become a border security mechanism. To be honest, we did not agree with that position at that time, but in the end we made a decision to rely on the interpretation of our strategic ally Russia,” Pashinyan said.

The RA Prime Minister stated that despite this, on 13 September of this year, Azerbaijan unleashed a new aggression against Armenia and occupied new territories. “The clear position of the Russian Federation on this matter: the need to withdraw the Azerbaijani troops to their positions as of 11 May, 2021, is quite important for us,” Nikol Pashinyan concluded.
