The Serious Crimes Investigation Division of the Investigation Department of the Yerevan of the RA Investigative Committee has completed preliminary investigation into the criminal case on the charge of violence against an RA police officer during the disobedience action of the participants initiated by the political opposition on Kiyevan Street on 17 May, 2022,.

As a result of the necessary investigative-judicial actions taken in the pre-trial proceedings, as well as the measures taken jointly with the RA Police officers, circumstances of essential importance in the criminal case were revealed.

Thus, on 17 May, 2022, at around 8:30 am, a group of citizens carrying out a protest action blocked the road in front of 15 Kiyevan Street in Yerevan, thus obstructing the free movement of other citizens.

The RA Police officers in the mentioned place, carrying out their duty to maintain public order, urged to free the traffic section of the street. The participants of the action did not obey the legal demands to clear the street and restore traffic, as a result some protesters were taken to police. During that time, Igor Yuri Khachaturov, along with another protester, obstructed the actions of the RA Police Inspector to clear the street, to detain people, and used non-hazardous violence against him, punching him several times in the chest and abdomen, while the officer was carrying out his official duties.

Igor Khachaturov was charged with Article 316, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code, with the combination of sufficient evidence obtained, and detention was applied to him as a measure of restraint.

The part concerning Khachaturov was separated in a separate proceeding, the end of the preliminary investigation was announced, and the criminal case, in accordance with Article 272 of the RA Criminal Procedure Code, was sent to the prosecuting prosecutor with a motion to approve the indictment and send it to court.

Note: A person suspected or accused of an alleged crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the RA Criminal Procedure Code by a court judgment that has entered into force.
