The Criminal Court of Appeal, chaired by Judge Rubik Mkhitaryan, rejected the appeal against the decision to extend the detention term of the former Chairman of the RA Investigative Committee, former RA Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Aghvan Hovsepyan by two months. Lawyer Erik Aleksanyan stated this in a conversation with the media.
It should be reminded that according to the statement by the Special Investigation Service, the combination of sufficient evidence obtained in the criminal case proves that Aghvan Hovsepyan held the position of Prosecutor General from 18 March, 2004 to 13 September, 2013, and the post of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee from 18 July, 2014 to 11 June, 2018, in the mentioned period he actually participated in the management of a number of LLCs carrying out business activities, in addition he received a particularly large bribe of 190,000,000 AMD, and fraudulently committed theft of property in a particularly large amount of 800,000,000 AMD.
Aghvan Hovsepyan was also charged with money laundering in a particularly large amount, totaling 1,299,404,414 AMD. Aghvan Hovsepyan was arrested on 8 September, 2021.
