Universities should work on their quality: Tigran Avinyan and Gor Vardanyan handed the medals to the students of the Polytechnic

The International Physics Olympiad named after one of the greatest medieval scientists of the 9th century, mathematician-geographer Al-Ferghani, recently took place in Uzbekistan.

127 students from 19 countries took part in the competition. The students of the Polytechnic High School won 5 medals – one silver and 4 bronze.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of NPUA Tigran Avinyan mentioned that it is a great honor for him to present the award medals to the winners. He considered very impressive the fact that all 5 participants of Armenia were awarded medals.

“The Polytechnic University has a very long and rich history. I am sure that now a new and interesting stage is entering, a stage of development and saturation with technologies. I think the rector Gor Vardanyan will have a great contribution in this case. A person who has the vision and ability to make large-scale changes, which we will soon see,” he said.

Rector of the National Polytechnic University of Armenia Gor Vardanyan mentioned in his speech that the team was offered to choose the participation format. The participants could travel to Uzbekistan or participate in the Olympiad online. The Olympic team decided to participate online, and the money for the flight was given to them as a reward.

“As Mr. Avinyan mentioned, the programs are very big, we have seen the support of the members of the Board of Trustees and members in their implementation. I am convinced that the main beneficiaries of these programs will be the students,” Vardanyan said.

Silver medalist Artashes Mkrtchyan, bronze medalists Armen Yepiskoposyan, Gevorg Zadoyan, Grigor Hovhannisyan, Hovsep Karapetyan received their awards.

The Rector also awarded the director of the Polytechnic High School Alfred Petrosyan and the deputy director Khachik Manukyan.

Speaking to reporters, Avinyan said that the awards are a great achievement for the university on the threshold of the changes that will take place at the university. In his opinion, there is an opportunity to significantly improve the level of education provided in universities.

“Universities must work on their quality. At the Polytechnic University we consider working on quality as our priority. I am sure that we will register those results in a short time,” Avinyan said.

He mentioned that now work is being done to increase the salaries of the teaching staff.

According to Gor Vardanyan, as a small state, Armenia has connected its success with knowledge and its result. In order to stop or slow down the flow of students from Armenia, according to the Rector, the educational systems should be brought to a proper level; lecturers from international educational institutions should be involved in the Armenian educational reality.

“We must create those opportunities in our homeland. Then I am sure that many young people will choose the way of education in the homeland. We should strive to strengthen the educational institutions in the Armenian reality, to bring them in line with international educational standards,” the Rector of the university said.
