The ECHR recognized the violation of Pashinyan’s rights after the elections in 2008

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) today, on 18 January, in the case of “Nikol Pashinyan v. Armenia” ruled that Pashinyan’s freedom, personal immunity, freedom of assembly, and the state’s obligation to respect his rights were violated. The incumbent Prime Minister of Armenia did not demand monetary compensation from the state.

The Court recognized violations of Nikol Pashinyan’s right to free assembly and personal freedom (Articles 11 and 5) in 2008. In the context of the events of 1 March and that followed.

The case concerns the imprisonment of opposition figure Pashinyan, which took place after the 2008 elections, when Pashinyan supported presidential candidate Levon Ter-Petrosyan.

He was detained from October 2009 to January 2010. The verdict states that Pashinyan’s right to freedom of speech and assembly has also been violated.
