Nikol Pashinyan on “Omicron” strain and the coronavirus situation in Armenia

During the 2 December sitting of the Government, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that the situation with the coronavirus is easing in Armenia. He noted the need to be more vigilant, as a new strain of COVID-19 has been identified.

Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan said that vaccinations stay the most effective and only way to fight the coronavirus.

“We must continue to direct all our efforts to speed up the vaccination process and to constantly raise the threshold. 40% of citizens over the age of 18 have already received the first dose, and the second dose – 23.9%,” he said.

According to the minister, 558 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed today, 9013 tests were performed, 21 citizens died.

She noted that the number of vaccinated citizens in active cases is 1,068, and 87 out of 2,349 hospitalized citizens have been vaccinated.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan asked whether they had reached a conclusion on the death statistics.

The Minister said that the studies are continuing, and as soon as they have a complete picture, they will inform the public.

Pashinyan told RA Prosecutor General Arthur Davtyan that it was necessary to find out whether there was any malice here or not.

“At the moment, the impression is that there is no malice, but it would be right for the prosecutor’s office to study and have a clear reply to the question,” the Prime Minister said.
